Pelton Shepherd Foam Bricks are Better…

Foam Bricks are a special type of cold chain packaging refrigerant that uses a light, rigid foam to constrain its shape to precise dimensions even after thawing. While some companies have opted for a vacuum thermoformed design, we at Pelton Shepherd have adopted a design more focused on performance and sustainability. Thermoforming typically requires a thick non-recyclable film that can deform into the forming mold without tearing. That is typically done with a 5-8mil non-recyclable film. In general, that type of encapsulation method requires a large sealing area that takes up space around the gel pack. Recent measurements found that Pelton Shepherd’s Foam Bricks pouch uses around 10% less plastic film than the common thermoformed foam brick gel refrigerant.
